Lake View Terrace sits alongside the floodplain created by both Big and Little Tujunga Canyons. Historically this has been the scene of massive flooding coming down from the Angeles Forest. In 1939 the US Army Corps of Engineers seized a large part of the ranch belonging to Homer and Marie Hansen in order to create Hansen Dam and prevent devastating flooding in the San Fernando Valley below. When the Angeles National Golf Club was proposed in 1987, it took ten years of environmental studies before construction could begin. The Jack Nicklaus designed course finally opened for play in 2004.
